Learning to ride heelys
Equipement:
If you are a beginner, we recommend you
to wear Heelys accessories that will protect you
if you fall and you will avoid many injuries.
Here the protective equipment offered by the
brand Heelys:
-a helmet : It avoids the bad blows to the head. It is necessary if you want
to try new tricks on heelys. It is also highly recommended for beginners.
-knee pads: they will avoid the scratches and holes in your favorite jeans.
-elbow pads: important if you did not find your center of balance.
- wrist protection : you will rely on them if you fall.
Accessories are essential when learning of Heelys. They ensure your safety and minimize injuries
from falls.
Basic Principles
Choose a good spot:
Once you have Heelys and adequate protections,
you are ready to go, but be careful, not anywhere!
Choose a large and wide open space where there
are no cars. Avoid to use Heelys on places where
it is forbidden to ride or crowded places. Avoid
the malls and places where there are lots of
pedestrians to prevent accidents. Avoid riding on
cracked soils and wet surfaces,
down stairs or on steep
slopes. Do not go to a HEELYS
higher speed than you would reach
running.
The ideal is to start inside on the floor or smooth
tile.
You will quickly notice that some surfaces
impede the wheels of Heelys to roll such as vinyl.
Choose an area so that glides well.
Once your wheels on your feet, you'll perhaps find it difficult to avoid obstacles at first
then choose a long wall that has no barriers
(No furniture in the way ...) and where you can get support if you lose your balance.
Find your equilibrium:
Tighten the shoes and tie the laces so they do not get caught in the wheels.
The first principle in Heelys is to always keep one foot in front another .
Your feet must never be parallel or cross when you're on your wheels, otherwise you lose your
balance. Go then a foot +/ - 20 cm before the other.
The foot that is behind is the one you use to kick a ball.
Lift up the front of the foot. Not too high not to touch the brake, but high enough anyway.
This foot will always remain in that position while riding.
He will guide your body and your movements on which you will put the weight of your body.
The foot that is behind, is the one witch will follow the route of the foot in front of you and
will give the initial impetus to get started.
To roll, lean slightly forward. Lock down your leg muscles: thighs, knees and ankles should be
tight to get a good support.
Take rests on the front foot and slide it forward with support by taking the back foot to the
floor. Keep both feet perfectly parallel.
Lean slightly forward and push a light tap on the ground to kick start with your back foot
and then lift the front foot slightly, do not touch the ground. The back foot lifts much weaker
than the front foot, the sole remaining more or less parallel to the ground.
Keep the distance between your feet and keep leaning slightly forward. Your two feet should be
in the same axis.
When you have enough speed to roll, place the front foot to the floor and repeat.
When you will feel more comfortable, you can gain speed by giving more power to start with the back
foot.
Attention in order not to fall, you should never drive faster than you know to run. If you
lose your balance, immediately place your feet flat on the floor and you could reduce your speed.
Heelys
learning may take a little time, do not be discouraged and keep patience.
How to stop:
-To slow down, simply place the heel of the shoe on the ground (by lifting the toes
even higher). The rear of the Heelys has a heel brake.
-To stop, put the ground all of your soles, toes on the ground. Warning, if you were
driving at the time of placing the feet on the ground,
inertia will push you forward and you will have to
run a few meters to avoid falling.
-Do not start rolling on a cracked ground or in a corner, it is best to avoid it by
walking over it. Bumps can damage the bearings of Heelys and cause falls.
-Always respect the rules of thumb that are listed at the top of this page.
Remove the cache:
The cache is used to use your Heelys as normal sneakers.
Use the tool to remove the cover, insert it behind the cover and lower the part you
are holding.
Remove the wheel:
- Turn the shoe and hold it firmly in both hands.
- Using your thumbs, press firmly on the side of the wheel, as close as possible to the
central axis.
- Once the axis is partially out of one side of the shoe, turn around and do the same
with the other side of the wheel.
Insert the wheel:
- Align the wheel in the "sink" and the push as hard as possible with your thumbs.
- Make a fist with your hand to insert the stems of the wheel in the two small holes
on either side of the "sink"
- Check that the wheel is fully inserted. Make a final check by knocking off the
heavily two to three times on the ground.
Do the same way to insert the cache.
Our method to learn quickly to make Heelys
Here is a small learning technique easy to get started more easily. Enjoy shopping at the
supermarket to support your cause by taking on a cart. Choose a day or supermarket is not
too full to avoid accidents with other customers of the supermarket.
Place your feet in front of each other and find your balance on your wheels.
Try to stay in this position as long as possible.
Take the basket, hang in there and try to move forward. Take the momentum with
your back foot and take the position of the first step in taking bearings on
the handle of the cart and you do not forget to lean slightly forward.
When you feel comfortable with the cart, start by taking progressively less
support to eventually abandon the shopping cart. Early release to the basket once in
position, then start blogging! It'll just lead you and you'll be a pro Heelers.
Tips & Warnings
After learning with the cart, you can request help from someone you reach out for
you to advance or move along a wall. Remember to use Heelys protections and respect
safety rules that follow.
